Last year, the City of Tucson approved a rezoning permit for The Casitas at La Mariposa. Before any building permits are issued, all conditions attached to the rezoning must be fully met. Lexy Wellott, Principal at The Planning Center, shared this update with TVVA in response to the interest shown by many members in the project.

- Recharge Basin Plans
Civil & Environmental Consultants resubmitted plans for the recharge basin, now including a 10-foot landscaped buffer along the eastern edge. - Archaeological Work
Archaeological work is nearing completion. Throughout this process, the team has worked in close partnership with the Tohono O’odham Nation and Pascua Yaqui Tribe. All discoveries have been handled with great care and respect, and any remains have been thoughtfully returned to appropriate sacred resting places in accordance with tribal guidance. - Trail Easement & Land Conveyance
Collaboration is ongoing with Pima County Parks and Natural Resources Department and the City’s Parks and Recreation Department to define the required trail easement. Plans currently under review also designate portions of land to be transferred to the Pima County Flood Control District for public benefit. - Grading & Plant Preservation Plans
The plans for rough grading and native plant preservation are currently under review by the City. These plans are designed to balance necessary site work with preservation of the natural desert landscape. Approval will allow excavation from the basin and redistribution of soil on-site. - Upcoming Development Plans
Development plans for the area north of Corte Vista La Mariposa are being prepared, with plans for the southern portion to follow. - Project Tracking
