Dear TVVA Members and Friends,

Thank you to everyone who joined us for Tuesday night’s Emergency Special Area Policy (SAP) Community Meeting. We appreciate the thoughtful discussion, respectful dialogue, and the passion so many of you continue to show for protecting the future of the Tanque Verde Valley.

If you were unable to attend, the presentation we shared at the meeting will be available on the TVVA website under “Initiatives” or under Resources in this email.

Highlights include:

  • An overview of the proposed SAP boundary changes
  • Why these changes matter to our community.
  • The three potential paths forward discussed by TVVA leadership.
  • Maps illustrating the proposed boundary revisions.

Questions and Discussion

The meeting generated many excellent questions and thoughtful discussion. Some of the primary topics included:

  • Why was the western portion of the SAP removed from the proposed boundary?
  • How could the proposed changes affect future annexation and development?
  • How do the SAP and City of Tucson annexation relate to one another?
  • Could the existing SAP be rejected or modified?
  • How are environmental resources, floodplains, and the Tanque Verde Wash considered?
  • What role does the SAP play in future rezoning requests?
  • What opportunities exist for collaboration with Pima County moving forward?
  • What can residents do to help?

A representative from Pima County attended to observe the discussion, answer questions about the SAP process, and express a willingness to continue working directly with TVVA leadership as comments are received and the process moves forward.

While some questions were answered, others, including the rationale behind portions of the proposed boundary changes, remain unresolved. We will continue seeking clarification and sharing information with the community as it becomes available.

We Need Your Input!

One of the most important outcomes of the meeting was the desire to ensure that TVVA’s next steps reflect the priorities of the broader community, not just those who were able to attend Tuesday evening.
