As promised, we’re glad to pass along a significant update on the proposed Tanque Verde Valley Special Area Plan (SAP) boundary. Thanks to your meeting attendance, volunteerism, and petition signing, Pima County leadership has agreed to restore the Melpomene-to-Sabino Creek area to the boundary map. It will now be presented to the Planning Commission for consideration.
The Planning Commission will take up the proposed SAP on Wednesday, August 26, at 9:00 a.m., at 201 N. Stone Avenue, Tucson, in the Basement Conference Room. This is a valuable chance for residents to weigh in and be heard.
Areas currently located within the City of Tucson can’t be included in the County’s SAP, since Tucson has no equivalent Special Area Plan designation of its own. That said, TVVA plans to meet with the City to explore creating a special classification for the Bear Canyon Neighborhood – one that would work alongside the County’s SAP and reflect the area’s distinct character.
There’s also promising news for the section south of Broadway known as “the Notch.” Thanks to resident feedback and sustained engagement in the process, the County has signaled real potential for reconsidering “the Notch” for inclusion in the SAP. TVVA supports its inclusion and will advocate on behalf of the residents there.
All this underscores how much resident involvement matters. The SAP boundary is still an open conversation, and engaged, constructive input can genuinely influence the outcome. We encourage residents, particularly those in or near the Notch, to attend the August 26 Planning Commission meeting and make their views known.
